Qorvo Launched The Industry's First C -Frequency Band Band Pass Filter And Switch/LNA Module For The 5G Small Honeycomb Base Station

Qorvo (Nasdaq: QRVO), a global provider of connectivity and power solutions, announced the QPQ3509, North America's first bulk acoustic wave (BAW) 280MHz bandpass filter for the new 5G C-band; and for 5G base stations QPB9850, a compact, highly integrated front-end switch/Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) module for RF front-end. The C-band coverage of the QPQ3509 combined with the high integration and compact design of the QPB9850 make these devices ideal for 5G small cell base station applications where size and weight are key criteria.

Kyung Mun, principal analyst at Mobile Experts, Inc., said: As the first phase of large-scale 'crazy' deployment of 5G fades in developed markets such as North America, operators are shifting their focus to the second phase, which utilizes cell towers and Network densification enabled by small cell base stations. Mobile Experts forecasts 5G small cells to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 9 percent over the next five years. In North America, we see a significant increase in annual operator shipments of outdoor small cell products over the next three years; as operators look to leverage mid-band/C-band spectrum in their expanding 5G network coverage with small cells to further expand network capacity.

The QPQ3509 filter covers the 5G frequency band from 3.7-3.98GHz in a compact 2.0mm×1.6mm package for base station applications. Low insertion loss combined with high out-of-band attenuation make this filter an excellent choice for 5G C-band applications. Additionally, the QPQ3509 is part of Qorvo's broad portfolio of RF BAW and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters.

As a wideband, single-channel switch LNA module, the QPB9850 integrates a 2-stage LNA that provides functionality across 2.3-5GHz to support various 5G frequency bands including n41, n77, n78, and n79. A high power handling switch can be used to protect the LNA while shutting down the LNA power supply when the radio is in transmit mode. The QPB9850 provides 34dB of gain at 3.6GHz with 1.1dB noise figure and high linearity of 31dBm OIP3. The QPB9850 is housed in a highly compact RoHS-compliant 3mm×3mm LGA package.
